Healthcare Flexible Spending Account
A Healthcare FSA allows you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified out-of-pocket medical, dental, vision or hearing expenses that are not covered by insurance.
Healthcare FSA is an independent pretax spending account for medical expenses. It is different from the
Health Savings Account (HSA), which is a pretax savings account only available to employees enrolled in the Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) medical plan. The 2023 Healthcare FSA limit is $3,050.
Extension to File Claims for Unused 2022 Healthcare FSA Funds
For any unused 2022 Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds, you have an extension to file claims until October 8, 2023, for any expenses that you incurred by March 15, 2023. This extension is due to the planned end of the COVID-19 national emergency and public health emergency declarations. Your “claim it by” date for your Medical/Limited Purpose FSA changed to October 8, 2023, instead of March 31, 2023. However, the “spend it by” date of March 15, 2023, did not changed; so your medical expense will have to have a date of service between January 1, 2022, to March 15, 2023. To receive reimbursement, you will need to have the claim submitted and approved by October 8, 2023.
Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account
A Dependent Care FSA allows you to pay for eligible child or adult care expenses on a pre-tax basis. Eligible expenses can be submitted for dependent children under the age of 13 or for a spouse or other adult dependent who is not able to take care of him or herself. The 2023 limit Dependent Care FSA limit is $5,000.
