Housing Unit

All campus housing at DePaul University comes furnished with a bed, a bed guard rail, a desk with a chair, a dresser, a closet or compartmentalized closet, and a recycling tote. Apartments also come with living and dining area furnishings, as space permits.  Residents can bring personal furniture and accessories to units and to move or set up university-provided or personal furniture within the unit. All roommates must agree with the furniture arrangement. If additional furniture is added to the unit, particularly used or upholstered furniture, all surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned, to avoid bringing pests into the building, and may be subject to Housing’s approval for health and safety. The following guidelines also apply: 

• Any non-university mattresses are expressly prohibited, due to fire safety standards. 
• All university-provided furniture and equipment must remain in the room or apartment as inventoried upon check-in; no storage outside of the unit is available. University furniture cannot leave the unit to be stored elsewhere.  
• All furniture must only be used in the way it was intended. 
• All beds are XL twin (80” long), except Centennial and McCabe which have standard twin (75” long) due to space constraints in the bedrooms. 
• All traditional halls have adjustable height / loftable bed ends that have the capability to be raised up to 60 inches. Campus apartments with loftable bed ends are Courtside, Sheffield Square, Sanctuary and Townhomes.  
  • After adjusting the bed height, residents are responsible for ensuring that the bed is properly reassembled. Assistance may be requested by placing a work order on the Housing website.
    
  • Residents who adjust their own bed heights must ensure all four (4) corners of the bed springs platform are completely and securely affixed to the hooks in the bed ends, otherwise the bed may not be stable and may cause injury. DePaul University is not responsible for damage or injury caused by improper adjustments. 
    
• All window treatments (mini blinds) must remain in place and cannot be altered or removed; students may hang decorative window treatments in addition to the blinds as long as the additional decorative window treatments are attached using a tension rod or removable adhesive strips that do not cause damage to the paint or wall surfaces. Attaching additional window treatments with nails, tacks, screws, or any other method that causes damage are not allowed. 
• Shower curtains may be hung in addition to the university-provided curtain in suite-style and apartment bathrooms. However, university-provided shower curtains must always stay hanging in shower stalls as they are properly sized and keep water from splashing or escaping onto the bathroom floor. Residents with private or suite-style bathrooms are responsible for regularly cleaning both personal and university-provided shower curtains throughout the year to remove and prevent growth of mildew.
  
• Furniture and accessories in lounges may not be brought into residents’ rooms.
  

Residential Rental Returns

A MicroFridge is a fridge, freezer, and microwave built into one and may be rented through DePaul’s approved vendor, My MicroFridge. Residents of LeCompte Hall, Munroe Hall, Ozanam Hall, Seton Hall, and University Hall may visit mymicrofridge.com to rent a MicroFridge.* If these items are rented, residents are required to follow certain guidelines. 

Fees may be assessed if units are not thoroughly cleaned, defrosted, and properly prepared for pick-up. For more information, visit the MyMicroFridge website. 

Pets are not allowed on campus or in campus housing. Having an unapproved pet and failing to remove it from campus housing is a direct violation of the housing agreement and will result in additional fees and may result in the termination of a resident's housing agreement.

Residents may request having a service animal or emotional support animal through the Center for Students with Disabilities but must await DePaul Housing’s approval before bringing a service or emotional support animal into an assigned campus room or apartment. Residents should store valuables in secure places, be watchful of suspicious behavior and lock unit doors while at home and when leaving the unit. As noted in the housing agreement’s terms and conditions​, the university assumes no responsibility and provides no insurance or financial protection for students’ individual property. If items are stolen from a residential unit left unlocked or if items are damaged because of a facility or building issue (a ruptured water pipe, bathroom plumbing emergency, pests, vandalism, etc.) the university will not pay to replace individual property. Students are encouraged to secure coverage via their parent or guardian’s homeowners or property insurance OR through GradGuard’s College Renters Insurance Program. By not carrying protection while on campus, students understand that they are fully responsible for their individual property and any damage caused while on university property. If theft or damage occurs, notify Public Safety to file a report. Public Safety can also assist with contacting the Chicago Police Department if necessary.​

Portable or electronic safes are allowed. However, the safe must not exceed 10”H x 14”D x 19¼”W and may not weigh more than 40 pounds. Safes may not be bolted to the floor, furniture or any other surface belonging to the university. Upon reasonable request by a university official, the safe must be opened for inspection. Failure to do so would be considered a violation of university policy.
