The Office of Multicultural Student Success's (OMSS) approach to advancing the cause of marginalized group members at DePaul University is rooted in our belief that systems of privilege and oppression directly impact the lives of people in this community. In light of this, OMSS staff members promote the interests of underrepresented populations at multiple levels within the institution in order to initiate change and give voice to the issues and concerns of people that may not otherwise be acknowledged. OMSS also provides academic success information, developmental programs, and key staff contacts for first generation, low income students, or students of color to empower them to be their own advocates during a time of crisis.
The Office of Multicultural Student Success is organized around three key curricular areas: College Transitions, Academic Excellence and Leadership Development, and Post-College Success. We designed these programmatic groupings after an extensive review of the research on what students need to learn and experience in order to persist through to graduation and achieve their post-college career goals. Study Jams promote an academic "Success Network" for our target population by providing direct academic support and assisting students in developing and refining success skills. Study Jams take place in the Learning Commons of the Richardson Library MTW 5-7pm in weeks 3-10 of each quarter with free writing and math tutoring in a community of peer scholars

Men of Color
The Men of Color Initiative is a comprehensive support program designed to build community among first-generation and/or low-income, male students of color in order to support them in their academic endeavors at DePaul University. In order to do so, the MOC Initiative provides the following:
- Chicago Quarter courses (Explore and Discover) for incoming students to explore the city of Chicago through the intersection of race and gender;
- A year-long MOC Leadership Academy for first-year students designed to support their transition to DePaul and to develop strong leadership skills through bi-weekly seminar-style meetings;
- A year-long Career Academy for sophomore students designed to encourage career exploration;
- A Faculty Mentoring program through which we pair junior-standing students with a faculty member in their specific major or college/school;
- A Beyond DePaul program designed to help graduating seniors make a successful transition to life after DePaul.

PATHS is a career-focused program offered to rising sophomores at DePaul University. All PATHS participants are provided the opportunity to engage with staff to have one-on-one conversations focused on career discernment; enroll in a two-credit career exploration and discernment course; attend career field trips; and receive weekly e-newsletters informing students about career exploration activities offered on campus. Participants will also have an opportunity to create a career portfolio.
STARS - Students Together are Reaching Success
A Peer to Peer Mentoring Experience for freshmen and transfer students A one year mentoring program providing students with transformative learning experiences in the following areas: academic excellence, financial fitness, leadership development, emotional wellness, and social networking. We provide engagement opportunities that promote increased affinity and community development. These students also can give back to the community later on in their academic careers by serving as peer mentors to future DePaul students.

Women Empowered (WE)
The Women Empowered (WE) Career Academy , a year-long program designed to support, and develop undergraduate women of color, offers bi-weekly workshops to develop life skills and explore the experiences and perspectives of women of color. Additionally, participants attend off-campus outings, or field trips with an emphasis on career development, identity development, and cultural exploration.

Senior Transitions Program
The Senior Transitions Program provides a series of capstone experiences designed to help graduating students transition from The Senior Transitions Program provides a suite of customized experiences for graduating seniors. Seniors are provided with one-on-one career coaching, off-campus retreats, and opportunities to engage with recent DePaul alumni. All programs are designed to help graduating seniors prepare for life after DePaul.
OMSS provides scholarships to facilitate the retention, persistence, and graduation of low-income DePaul students and to recognize academic excellence and a commitment to service among first-generation students, and students of color.
- Financial Support: Scholarship awards are awarded to applicants who demonstrate financial need.
- Leadership Development: Encourages participation in existing OMSS programs and/or other leadership development opportunities.
- Academic Support: Meetings with professional staff to assure good academic standing and progress toward degree completion.
Academic Success Check-Ins
Academic success check-ins are geared towards maintaining a successful experience here at DePaul. Each check-in is a one-on-one meeting with an OMSS staff member during the 4th-7th weeks of the quarter. Your professors will be asked to submit your grade-to-date. In addition, they will provide information about your attendance, participation, your midterm grade and overall updates about your progress in the class. When we receive your report, OMSS staff will contact you immediately to schedule a check-in to discuss your grades, your student leadership involvement, your personal wellness and to give you strategies to assure academic success.
