Fall Quarter 2021

Last Updated: May 5, 2021

The information below reflects current plans for Fall Quarter 2021. Though we expect Fall housing to resemble a standard year, please know that details on this page are subject to change as Fall planning depends on the status of COVID-19 and guidance from the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, and public health organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Our team highly recommends students monitor this page for possible updates.

Yes, there will be housing available during the 2021-22 academic year and we expect it to have pre-COVID levels for our occupancy.

We are returning to our normal rate structure for both housing and meal plans. Please visit our Housing Rates webpage and Meal Plan Types & Rates webpage for more information.

Returning to normal occupancy means most of our traditional, suite, and apartment-style units have students living together. The number of roommates varies based on the size and unit type. DePaul offers a roommate matching section in the Housing portal for new students looking for roommates.

Housing agreements for 2021-22 will remain open throughout the year. Housing assignments will be made based on availability and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our Room Selection process for continuing students will be virtual and will begin in mid-May. For sophomores and upperclassmen, we have amazing apartment-style living on the Lincoln Park campus as well as a variety of unit types at University Center (Loop). We plan to house as many of our sophomores and upperclassmen as we are able and as space allows.

Students who would like to cancel their housing for Fall Quarter 2021 must follow instructions on our Cancellation webpage, which includes deadlines to cancel without penalty.

Students entering our Discover Chicago courses will move in one week prior to the start of classes to enjoy the city experience that comes with being part of Immersion Week. Exact move-in dates and times will be by appointment, but you can plan on moving in sometime the weekend of August 27-29.

At this time, we do not know which COVID-related guidelines will be in place come Fall Quarter. Right now, we are planning to continue to comply with all guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), State of Illinois, and City of Chicago. This may include, but not limited to continued face covering requirements especially in public areas, frequent hand washing, hand sanitizing placed throughout our halls, social distancing, and extra cleaning of all of our buildings on campus.

Our COVID-19 Campus Housing Information webpage currently has guidance for 2020-21 residents. As it gets closer to Fall Quarter, this resource will be updated for the 2021-22 academic year.

DePaul is committed to the health and safety of all of our students and those living in close quarters on campus are potentially at a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure or contraction. As a result, all students living on campus, both in Lincoln Park and University Center downtown, are required to be vaccinated.

As with all immunizations, DePaul will consider requests for medical and religious exemptions on a case-by-case basis.

We do understand that at the current time, there may be some geographical locations where it is harder or even not possible to get vaccinated. While we anticipate that it will get easier to get an approved vaccine across the globe before Fall Move-In, we ask that students having issues of vaccine access contact the university during the summer to discuss options and receive additional resources. This conversation needs to happen well in advance of your scheduled move-in date.

Part of our plans are to return of normal practices in our residential buildings, including reinstating our guest policy. It is too early to know if there will be any modifications to this policy, but we will keep this FAQ updated.
