FAQ

The below information reflects standard housing practices year-round. Certain on-campus policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to health and safety, have evolved due to the pandemic. To accommodate these changes, our department created Housing FAQ webpages specific to COVID-19, Fall Quarter, Winter QuarterSpring Quarter, and Summer Session.

Students who are confirmed for a unit on campus receive their housing assignment letters via email approximately by early July. Building and roommate assignments are also available in the Housing portal at myhousing.depaul.edu. If your assigned roommate chooses not to come to DePaul, another will be assigned to the vacant space. We encourage you to check the portal periodically during the summer in case of updates.

For rooms with multiple beds, the decision of which student gets which bed is a discussion that needs to be had amongst all roommates and must be mutually agreed upon. For apartment-style units, Housing assigns students individual bedrooms within the apartment.

Housing is assigned on a rolling basis throughout the academic year, as it becomes available. If you're looking to live on campus, no date is too late. We assign students to campus housing year-round on both the Lincoln Park and Loop campuses. Please Note: Housing is available for fall, winter, and spring quarters! Visit the Apply for Housing tab for details.

If you are looking for details about specific types of housing, such as Winter Break Housing or Summer Housing, those are also under the Apply for Housing tab.

Housing accommodations will only be honored, depending on availability, based on recommendations from the Center for Students with Disabilities. Students are encouraged to contact the Center for Students with Disabilities upon submission of their housing agreement.

Meal plans are required for all students living in Lincoln Park campus housing and for students living in suite-style units at the University Center. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please email Housing at housing@depaul.edu. The dining center has multiple food options and is able to meet many student needs. Keep in mind that you cannot be released from the meal plan requirement based on personal food choice, lifestyle, or preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan), or other non-medically-based dietary requests. To learn more, visit our Allergies & Dietary Needs page.

Learn more about meal plans, including types, rates and requirements, on our Meal Plan Types & Rates page.

We have a number of programs for international students. Please email housing@depaul.edu and we will provide you the most accurate information for your situation.

For incoming students, you can change your preferences (building, room type, and roommate request) as many times as you would like up until June 1 and you will not get penalized for doing so, as we will make assignments based on the original agreement submission date. Preferences are not accepted after June 1. Once you move into your unit, you may request a room/building/campus change after the third week of classes. Information regarding room change requests, may be found on the Room Changes webpage.
