Prohibited items are not allowed in Lincoln Park campus housing at any time. Possession may result in confiscation of the item, as well as disciplinary action. DePaul Housing reserves the right to alter this list at any time.

- Extension cords
- Power strips and surge protectors WITHOUT an ON/OFF switch
- Outlet adapters and splitters
- Electric blankets
- Halogen light bulbs
- Lava lamps and strobe lights
- Air fresheners with built-in outlets (without outlets allowed)
- Multiple strands of decorative lights (single strand allowed if plugged directly into wall outlet)
Combustibles
- Candles (even when not lit)
- Incense
- Scented oil burners
- Explosives (fireworks, firecrackers)
- Flammable materials (charcoal, propane, gasoline)
Weapons
- Firearms
- Swords and martial arts blades
- Stun guns and Tasers
- Knives not used for cooking
- Any weapon not listed
Paraphernalia
- Large quantities or containers of alcohol over 1.75L (kegs, cases, handles)
- Tables or devices for playing drinking games
- Paraphernalia used to consume alcohol (shot glasses, funnels, party/beer balls, coolers)
- Paraphernalia used for drug use (pipes, grinders, one hitters, bowls)
Appliances
- More than one refrigerator or microwave per unit
- Refrigerators larger than 4.8 cubic feet
- Appliances that use more than 1500 watts
- Appliances with exposed heating elements
- Toaster ovens and convection ovens
- Deep fryers
- Outdoor grills
- Portable air-conditioning units and space heaters
Kitchen Only
These items are allowed in residence halls but can only be used in kitchens. They must be unplugged when not in use.
- Hot plates and electric burners
- Rice cookers and slow cookers
- Air fryers
- Indoor grilling appliances (George Foreman Grills, electric skillets)
- Sandwich makers and panini presses
- Popcorn poppers
- Toasters
- Irons (may also be used in laundry room)
Miscellaneous
- Personal locks (may not be used on DePaul-owned property)
- 3D printers
- Ceiling/wall-hung tapestries
- Live pumpkins and trees
- Non-university mattresses or lofts
- Liquid or gel drain clog chemicals
- Pets
- Stolen property (CTA or street signs)
- Drums, percussion, and electrical instruments (unless a headset is used to prevent outgoing sound)
- Subwoofers
- Bicycles (not allowed in halls or rooms, only on outside racks or storage facilities)
- Transportation devices with Lithium Ion Batteries (e.g. hoverboards, skateboards, scooters, etc.)*
*Students using mobilized chairs, such as scooters or wheelchairs, that use lithium-ion batteries, should register with the Center for Students with Disabilities.
