The Manager Support Network Series offers monthly sessions exclusively for student employee managers. These sessions are an opportunity to elevate yourself as a manager and connect with a manager support network. Each session will include a themed topic and open Q&A time with OSE staff and other managers. These are casual, lunch-n-learn virtual sessions.

September: Learn about DePaul GROW

Monday September 22, 12:00 – 1:00

Join us at the top of fall quarter to learn about DePaul GROW®. GROW® is a nationwide initiative that helps students connect learning across contexts: academics, campus jobs, and career goals. Managers can join the initiative and help elevate student employment as a High-Impact Practice. Join this session if you’re looking for a simple yet super effective way to make student employment more impactful.

October: Leading Peer Leaders

Monday October 20, 12:00 – 1:00

Do you have student employees who supervise or lead other student employees on your team? Are they fully equipped for that elevated role guiding their peers? Are they making the most of this leadership opportunity? Join us to learn practical training models and hear from other managers of peer leaders on best practices.

November: Create an Enviable Team Culture

Monday November 17, 12:00 – 1:00

In this session, you’ll identify some common culture types, and how to objectively assess your own team culture. You’ll also discover how to overhaul a toxic team culture in favor of a positive one that leverages individuals' strengths.

December: AI in the Workplace

Monday December 15, 12:00 – 1:00

Join us for this session to find out what managers need to know about the use of AI in campus job applications, interviewing, and on-the-job. Develop skills for coaching student employees on the efficacy and ethics of using AI on the job.

January: Goal Setting

Monday January 12, 12:00 – 1:00

Make some time at the start of winter quarter to set your own goals as a manager. Learn how to coach students on goal setting. Have some fun creating and sharing a New Years’ work-related vision board!

February: The Art of Repair: Coming Back from a Workplace Mistake

Monday February 16, 12:00 – 1:00

We all make mistakes. This session will explore the concept of repairing trust or workplace dynamics with student staff, owning up to mistakes as a manager, and practical steps and tips to handle the aftermath.

March: Performance Management

Monday March 16, 12:00 – 1:00

In this session, you’ll learn to give feedback effectively and continually. This topic includes how to improve poor performance, challenge top performers, and meaningfully engage staff. You’ll also take away tips to continually improve performance and results for your team and department.

April: In Person Student Employment Department Showcase

We're kicking off National Student Employment Week with a Showcase! Check out showcase displays from some of the departments doing great things to elevate the student employment experience at DePaul. Celebrate those doing great work and get new ideas on how to raise the bar with your team.

May: In Person Manager Luncheon and Round Table

Join us for a luncheon to celebrate the end of the year, and all the great work you’ve done as a manager of student employees. Participate in round table discussions to learn new skills and plan your next steps to engage intentionally in the work as a student employee manager.
