The Student Employment Professional Development Series offers a quarterly program exclusively for student employees. These programs are an opportunity to elevate yourself as an employee, & participate in learning, activities, and networking with your fellow campus employees.

Student Employee Focus Group

Wednesday October 23, 2024, 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Lincoln Park campus

This event will be a casual opportunity for student employees across campus to share their ideas for resources and events the Office of Student Employment can offer. It will be led by two student employees and be a great opportunity to brainstorm and network with your peers. The event opens at 5pm and you can grab some food and mingle until the event officially starts at 5:30pm. See you there!

Peer Tutor and Mentor Summit, hosted by The Writing Center

Friday February 28, 2025, 9:30 - 3:00, Lincoln Park Student Center 314AB

The Peer Tutor & Mentor Summit is a professional development and community-building event for any student who serves in a peer support role such as tutors, mentors, advisors, coaches, leaders, and others across DePaul University. The Summit is a collaborative event that focuses on the current needs of our communities and best practices. This is a dedicated space where peer educators can “Network. Collaborate. Learn." through a variety of Round Robin sessions (interactive mini-workshops), as well as through reflective activities and other fun networking opportunities. Manager Support Network

Launching in academic year 24-25, the Manager Support Network Series will offer monthly sessions exclusively for student employee managers. These sessions are an opportunity to elevate yourself as a manager and connect with a manager support network. ​Each session will include a themed topic and open Q&A time with OSE staff and other managers. These are casual, lunch-n-learn virtual sessions.

Learn more about the Manager Support Network, all OSE Resources for managers and student employees, and get your questions answered by the OSE Learning and Development manager. These sessions will be particularly helpful in planning your onboarding training and ongoing development for your student employees for the coming academic year.

September: Setting the Stage

Join us to learn how to establish clear and collaborative expectations, and build a positive and professional team culture from the get-go, to set the stage for a great year. 

October: BlueSky Updates Tutorial

Monday Oct. 21, 12:00 - 1:00

HR will join us to teach managers how to maximize the new updates to BlueSky. In particular, they will walk us through the updates to the Learning, Onboarding, and Journeys tools. These tools will help managers improve the onboarding and L&D experience for their student employees.

November: Career Readiness through Campus Jobs

Students often use their campus employment to gain new professional and transferable skills for their career paths. Hilarie Longnecker from the Career Center will join us to give managers tools and strategies for supporting their student employees' career readiness through their campus jobs and help students maximize on the campus job experience. 

December: Supporting International Student Employees

Monday Dec. 16, 12:00 - 1:00

The folks from International Student Success will join us to share their advice on how managers can fully support their international student employees. Beyond FAQs about policies, they will talk about how to help internationatinoal student employees become more accustomed to US workplace norms, supporting their career development, and being holistically aware of the unique challenges and benefits that international students face.

January: Mental Health 1st Aid for Managers

Monday Jan. 13, 12:00 - 1:00

We will be joined by Enrique Silva from UCAPS, who will educate managers on the practice of Mental Health 1st Aid as managers. While managers should not be taking on the role of "therapist" for student employees, we are often the first line of support that students have. Enrique will provide understanding of warning signs of struggle and share tools and strategies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of student employees. He will also guide reflection for what the experience is like for managers as students' support system.
