LeCompte Hall

Location

2311 North Racine Avenue
Chicago, Illinois 60614

Building Description

LeCompte Hall is dedicated to the historical significance of Aspasia LeCompte, a slave who petitioned for her freedom and became emancipated in 1839—12 years after her first suit was filed. With that determination, LeCompte also managed to obtain the freedom of her five family members in 1844.

This five-story building offers students single and double rooms that share adjoining bathrooms. Study rooms, kitchenettes, and lounges are available on each floor for student use, with the laundry room located on the first floor. A collaboration lounge is located on the third floor. The building is wheelchair accessible. LeCompte Hall shares a grassy courtyard with Munroe Hall, which is accessible to all on-campus residents between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. via Blue Demon Card (DePaul ID). LeCompte Hall is a predominantly first-year residence hall.

  • Four residents (two in each room) share a bathroom in a double suite. Many of these types of rooms are converted units, which are able to accommodate an additional resident. Learn more about converted housing.
  • Two residents in a double deluxe suite enjoy a private bath.
  • One resident in their own single suite room shares a bathroom with an adjoining unit.
  • Rooms feature extra-long twin beds.
  • All beds come with 60” tall adjustable bed ends that allow beds to be set anywhere between standard height up to loft height. Converted triples are set with 1 bunk bed and 1 lofted bed due to space constraints, and this configuration cannot be changed unless the space is no longer a converted triple.
