Health Services

Taking care of yourself begins with communication. Presence Sage Medical Group ("Presence") is a community health care provider with an office conveniently located in DePaul’s Lincoln Park campus and, should you wish to use their services, is here to assist you by thoroughly explaining your options and taking the time to answer any questions. The most effective care detects and prevents problems early, and quality systems ensure that recognized guidelines for disease prevention and control are followed for patients.

Students who pay the health services fee are treated as current patients at Presence, and office visits and basic lab work are covered by the fee. Ideally, students would pay the fee and also have health insurance. However, if students use primary insurance instead of paying the health services fee, they will be treated as new patients. Like any doctor's office, during busy times Presence may not be able to accommodate new patients and would instead provide appropriate referrals to other providers in the area.

Acute Versus Chronic Treatment

The health services fee is designed to cover acute illnesses and injuries. For students with chronic illnesses, Presence can treat an acute episode; however, long-term monitoring and treatment is not covered by the fee.​

STD Testing

The health services fee does cover STD testing when a student is experiencing symptoms. Students' sexual health is an important component of their development, and Presence is an appropriate support and referral source for students. Prescriptions

Prescriptions provided to students are NOT covered by the fee. Pharmacies adjacent to campus accept a variety of prescriptions drug cards as well as cash payments. Presence may provide a few medications on-site for a nominal fee to help support a student's compliance with recommended treatment.

Presence cannot refill prescriptions for the treatment of ADD/ADHD. Other ongoing prescriptions, such as Accutane, antidepressants and bipolar medications, cannot be refilled by physicians at Presence.​

Parents and Guardians

Presence welcomes parents and guardians to call with general concerns or questions. While specific questions regarding diagnosis or treatment may not be shared without the consent of the patient, the staff will make every effort to assist parents and guardians because they understand how difficult it can be to be far away from a sick student. ​

How do I Pay the Health Services Fee/Dates of Coverage

Students who live in a residence hall (except for 1237 West and the University Center) automatically pay the health services fee as part of their on campus housing. Students who commute or live off campus can pay the health services fee with a credit card by logging into Campus Connect. Go to: Main Menu - Self Service - Student Resources - Sage Medical Registration. If you need to pay the fee by cash or check you must visit DePaul Central.

Dates of Coverage:
Fall quarter: August 31, 2015 – January 3, 2016
Winter quarter: January 4, 2016 – March 27, 2016
Spring quarter: March 27, 2016 – June 12, 2016
Summer (optional): June 13, 2016 – August 31, 2016

How do I discontinue coverage?

Before choosing to opt out of the health services fee, consider the student's access to local health care and insurance coverage. Presence can provide easy and affordable access to basic health care.

To discontinue the health services fee, residence hall students must present a copy of their DePaul ID card and proof of medical insurance (copy of an insurance card or a letter from the insurance company by two weeks into a quarter, with no refunds after that deadline). On the copy, PRINT: student name, residence hall with room number and DePaul ID number. Present documents in person or send to the Dean of Students Office, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Suite 307, Chicago, IL 60614, by the following deadlines:

  • Fall quarter: Friday, September 29, 2017, to be dropped for fall, winter and spring quarters.
  • Winter quarter Friday, January 19, 2018, to be dropped for the winter and spring
  • Spring quarter: Friday, April 13, 2018, to be dropped for spring quarter.

Once a student has submitted a copy of an insurance card at the beginning of the year, there is no need to present it every quarter. This is a yearly process. The bill will initially show a charge for "medcare" each quarter, but the account will be credited following the first two weeks of each quarter.​
