Students will receive a violation letter to their DePaul email address once a professor files a formal violation. If this is a student's first violation, they have the right to appeal the violation if they believe the violation did not occur or the sanction given by the professor was too severe. Students must submit their appeal through Campus Connect within 2 weeks of receiving the formal violation letter to their email. After the submission of an appeal letter, a hearing will be scheduled for the following quarter. Students will receive information on the hearing date at least 2 weeks before the scheduled hearing. If this is a student’s second (or more) violation, a hearing will automatically be scheduled. It is recommended that students submit documentation to academicintegrity@depaul.edu. Please provide any documentation that you would like to the AIB to have access to (such as Google Docs version history, communication with the professor, etc). See details below to understand DePaul’s Academic Integrity process and timeline.
Start: Received Notification of Violation (email sent via Campus Connect)
Was this your first violation? Yes or No If No, see MANDATORY MULTIPLE TRIGGERED
If Yes, do you want to file an appeal (Do you believe the violation did not occur or that the sanction for the violation was excessive?) Yes or No
If No, the outcome is accepted and the case is closed.
If Yes, you have two weeks to file an appeal (after receiving formal email) in Campus Connect. Your appeal statement should be formal, with complete sentences and details on why you are filing this appeal. It does not have to be too long as additional details can be provided in the supporting documentation. After you submit an appeal, a hearing will be scheduled for the quarter following the quarter in which the violation occurred. You will be notified of the hearing date at least 2 weeks prior to the hearing. After the hearing, an outcome will be issued within 4 weeks. The outcome is final.
*if this is your first violation, you will not be given any additional sanctions from the AIB. The AIB will only consider the sanction given by the professor.
MANDATORY MULTIPLE TRIGGERED
If a violation is not your first, a hearing will automatically be scheduled for the following quarter. You will be notified of the hearing date at least 2 weeks prior to the hearing. During the hearing, the AIB may consider AIB sanctions in addition to the professor's sanction. See additional sanctions heres here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gLLyIJ7YuahL0i5jbF6DAdCMNb21EyF9/view?usp=sharing. After the hearing, an outcome will be issued within 4 weeks.
Students have the right to appeal an AIB decision on a mandatory multiple on the following grounds: 1) Substantial procedural error, 2) New evidence, or 3) Excessive or inappropriate sanction.
