The Office of New Student & Family Engagement implements new student orientation to aid in the transition of students and families into the university. The information provided here is designed to make students feel confident and excited as they begin their first quarter at DePaul!
Orientation for new transfer and adult students includes two required portions: an academic advising appointment and a Transition DePaul orientation session.
The academic advising appointment is, when admitted students meet with an advisor to register for classes. Transition DePaul orientation includes an introduction to DePaul’s campus, important resources for success, and the opportunity to meet other new students. Both portions are available online or in-person. Please ensure that you have signed up for the modality you prefer. If you select a virtual session, you will access the session via Zoom. If you select an in person session, you will be expected to be present in person at the address listed when you sign up.
Incoming students can choose an in-person or online option for both portions of orientation (academic advising and Transition DePaul orientation). All incoming undergraduate transfer and adult students must attend an academic advising appointment and Transition DePaul prior to starting their first quarter
During the advising appointment portion of orientation, you will meet with an advisor from your college. This meeting will be the first of many advisor meetings you will have as a student at DePaul and will focus on getting you set up with classes for your first quarter. While there will not be time to dive into your graduation plan, once you start at DePaul you will be matched with your permanent advisor and can begin those conversations.
To help you prepare for your advising appointment and course registration, we recommend reviewing:
The registration and degree planning tools available here.
Before attending orientation, you are required to submit your official, final transcript(s) to the Office of Admission. Your academic advisor can help you better select classes if your final transcript information has been evaluated before you attend orientation.
Yes, attendance at all portions of orientation is required. This is how all first time DePaul students register for their first quarter of classes. Orientation enables you to learn more about the requirements of your college program, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, interact with current DePaul students, and find out more about being a student at DePaul.
Students complete their required placement process online before registering for orientation. The results of this process will be shared during academic advising to determine proper course selection.
The placement process will be completed online. When you are ready to begin your placement process, log in to Blue Demon Domain and select Placement Process from the Next Steps checklist.
For detailed information about the placement process and exemptions, visit here. For specific questions about the placement process, please contact Student Records at email@example.com or 312.362.8610.
Parent(s) or family member(s) can assist you when reviewing the Degree Planning Tools prior to coming to orientation. However, when meeting with an advisor during the academic advising appointment, parents/guests are discouraged from participating with their students.
If you have decided not to attend DePaul University, please update your application in Blue Demon Domain inform the Office of Admission (firstname.lastname@example.org) and New Student and Family Engagement (email@example.com) as soon as possible.
Academic advising appointments and Transition DePaul sessions are based on your college of enrollment. Please note that a limited number of students can attend each session and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orientation registration is available in Blue Demon Domain prior to the start of the quarter.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have additional questions.
Students who take action early and select an earlier orientation date do have an advantage when it comes to selecting classes. The greatest selection of course offerings will be available to those who attend orientation early.
