Transfer Student Orientation

The Office of New Student & Family Engagement implements new student orientation to aid in the transition of students and families into the university. The information provided here is designed to make students feel confident and excited as they begin their first quarter at DePaul!

Transition DePaul is a mandatory orientation program for incoming students, and consists of both an orientation session and a separate advising appointment. In addition to the orientation session, you must sign up for an advising appointment, where you will meet with an advisor to register for classes. You may sign up for a virtual (online) or in person orientation session and academic advising appointment. Please ensure that you have signed up for the modality you prefer. If you select a virtual session, you will access the session via Zoom. If you select an in person session, you will be expected to be present in person at the address listed when you sign up. You will also receive confirmation and reminder emails with these details. If you have any questions about the program, please contact orientation@depaul.edu

Transition DePaul orientation will be held in two modalities with in person and online options. All incoming undergraduate transfer and adult students must attend an academic advising appointment and Transition DePaul prior to starting their first quarter.

As one step in your orientation process, you will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor from your college of enrollment. This meeting will be the first of many advisor meetings you will have as a student at DePaul and will focus on getting you set up with classes for your first quarter. While there won’t be time to dive into your graduation plan, once you start at DePaul you will be matched with your permanent advisor and can begin those conversations.

To help you prepare for your advising and registration during Transition DePaul, we recommend:

  • Complete the mandatory Pre-Orientation Online Module
  • Reviewing registration and degree planning tools available here.

Before attending orientation, you are required to submit your official, final transcript(s) to the Office of Admission. Your academic advisor can help you better select classes if your final transcript information has been evaluated before you attend orientation.

Yes, attendance at all portions of orientation is required. This is how all first time DePaul students register for their first quarter of classes. Orientation enables you to learn more about the requirements of your college program, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, interact with current DePaul students, and find out more about being a student at DePaul.

Students complete their required placement process online before registering for orientation. The results of this process will be shared during academic advising to determine proper course selection.

The placement process can be completed at home. When you are ready to begin your placement process, log in to Blue Demon Domain using your DePaul user ID and password and select Placement Process from the Next Steps checklist.

For detailed information about the placement process and exemptions, visit here. For specific questions about the placement process, please contact Student Records at dpcl@depaul.edu or 312.362.8610.

Parent(s) or family member(s) can assist you when reviewing the Degree Planning Tools prior to coming to orientation. However, when meeting with an advisor during orientation, parents/guests are discouraged from attending advising sessions with their students.

If you have decided not to attend DePaul University, please inform the Office of Admission (admission@depaul.edu) and New Student and Family Engagement (orientation@depaul.edu) as soon as possible.

Academic advising appointments and Transition DePaul sessions are based on your college of enrollment. Please note that a limited number of students can attend each session and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For students starting in the winter or spring quarter 2022, orientation registration will be available in Blue Demon Domain

Please email orientation@depaul.edu if you have additional questions.

Students who take action early and select an earlier orientation date do have an advantage when it comes to selecting classes. The greatest selection of course offerings will be available to those who attend orientation early.
