Transfer Student Orientation

The Office of New Student & Family Engagement implements new student orientation to aid in the transition of students and families into the university. The information provided here is designed to make students feel confident and excited as they begin their first quarter at DePaul!

Transition DePaul is our mandatory orientation program for incoming transfer and adult students. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Transition DePaul will be adjusted to a virtual experience for spring 2021. The program, offered virtually throughout the summer, will include several parts to be completed over a period of a few days. Students are required to attend both days of orientation in order to meet virtually with an academic advisor and register for courses. Students will learn about the university and participate in group activities with current and fellow students. Transition DePaul is a transfer student's introduction to the amazing experience that awaits them at DePaul University.

You must complete it prior to registering for the synchronous portion and advising. Please note – it can take up to two business days for the Pre-Orientation Online Module to process.
  3. Register for Transition DePaul. You will also receive an email confirming your advising appointment details. If you do not receive these confirmation emails, please email orientation@depaul.edu.

As one step in your orientation process, you will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor from your college of enrollment. This meeting will be the first of many advisor meetings you will have as a student at DePaul and will focus on getting you set up with classes for your first quarter. While there won’t be time to dive into your graduation plan, once you start at DePaul you will be matched with your permanent advisor and can begin those conversations.

To help you prepare for your advising and registration during Transition DePaul, we recommend:

  • Complete the mandatory Pre-Orientation Online Module
  • Reviewing registration and degree planning tools available here.

Before attending orientation, you are required to submit your official, final transcript(s) to the Office of Admission. Your academic advisor can help you better select classes if your final transcript information has been evaluated before you attend orientation.

Yes, attendance at all portions of orientation is required. This is how all first time DePaul students register for their first quarter of classes. Orientation enables you to learn more about the requirements of your college program, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, interact with current DePaul students, and find out more about being a student at DePaul.

Students complete their required placement process online before registering for orientation. The results of this process will be shared during academic advising to determine proper course selection.

The placement process can be completed at home. When you are ready to begin your placement process, log in to Blue Demon Domain using your DePaul user ID and password and select Placement Process from the Next Steps checklist.

For detailed information about the placement process and exemptions, visit here. For specific questions about the placement process, please contact Student Records at dpcl@depaul.edu or 312.362.8610.

Parent(s) or family member(s) can assist you when reviewing the Degree Planning Tools prior to coming to orientation. However, when meeting with an advisor during orientation, parents/guests are discouraged from attending advising sessions with their students.

If you have decided not to attend DePaul University, please inform the Office of Admission (admission@depaul.edu) and New Student and Family Engagement (orientation@depaul.edu) as soon as possible.

Orientation sessions are based on your college of enrollment. Please note that a limited number of students can attend each Transition DePaul session and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
