Office of New Student & Family Engagement implements new student orientation to aid in the transition of students and families into the university. The information provided here is designed to make students feel confident and excited as they begin their first quarter at DePaul!
Transition DePaul is our mandatory orientation program for incoming transfer and adult students.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the required portions of Transition DePaul will be online in 2021. The online program includes two required portions: academic advising and virtual Transition DePaul. In the academic advising appointment, students will meet with an advisor in their college of enrollment to discuss degree requirements and to confirm registration for their first quarter of classes. This meeting will last for approximately one hour. The other portion of orientation, virtual Transition DePaul, is a two hour session that introduces students to university resources necessary to succeed at DePaul. At virtual Transition DePaul, Orientation Leaders—current DePaul students—will answer questions about student life and more.
In 2021, the required portions of Transition DePaul orientation will be held online. All incoming undergraduate transfer and adult students must attend a virtual academic advising appointment and virtual Transition DePaul prior to starting their first quarter.
As one step in your orientation process, you will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor from your college of enrollment. This meeting will be the first of many advisor meetings you will have as a student at DePaul and will focus on getting you set up with classes for your first quarter. While there won’t be time to dive into your graduation plan, once you start at DePaul you will be matched with your permanent advisor and can begin those conversations.
To help you prepare for your advising and registration during Transition DePaul, we recommend:
Before attending orientation, you are required to submit your official, final transcript(s) to the Office of Admission. Your academic advisor can help you better select classes if your final transcript information has been evaluated before you attend orientation.
Yes, attendance at all portions of orientation is required. This is how all first time DePaul students register for their first quarter of classes. Orientation enables you to learn more about the requirements of your college program, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, interact with current DePaul students, and find out more about being a student at DePaul.
Students complete their required placement process online before registering for orientation. The results of this process will be shared during academic advising to determine proper course selection.
The placement process can be completed at home. When you are ready to begin your placement process, log in to Blue Demon Domain using your DePaul user ID and password and select Placement Process from the Next Steps checklist.
For detailed information about the placement process and exemptions, visit here. For specific questions about the placement process, please contact Student Records at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312.362.8610.
Parent(s) or family member(s) can assist you when reviewing the Degree Planning Tools prior to coming to orientation. However, when meeting with an advisor during orientation, parents/guests are discouraged from attending advising sessions with their students.
If you have decided not to attend DePaul University, please inform the Office of Admission (email@example.com) and New Student and Family Engagement (firstname.lastname@example.org) as soon as possible.
Academic advising appointments and virtual Transition DePaul sessions are based on your college of enrollment. Please note that a limited number of students can attend each session and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For students starting in the summer or fall quarter 2021, orientation registration will be available in Blue Demon Domain in early April 2021.
Students who take action early and select an earlier orientation date do have an advantage when it comes to selecting classes. The greatest selection of course offerings will be available to those who attend orientation early.
