FAQ

Virtual programs give students a unique and immersive international experience without physically traveling abroad.  Students are enrolled in a class focused on the topic of the program, and the academic content and activities are all facilitated virtually.  Each program will have its own structure and format, and virtual activities might include international speakers, interactive workshops, networking, collaborative projects with international contacts, or online cultural activities. Some programs meet throughout the quarter of registration, while others have class meetings and assignments scheduled more intensively during the break. See each program page for details.

At this time, the only cost for most* virtual programs is the tuition for the class(es)—there is usually no program fee above and beyond the cost of tuition.  For full-time undergraduate students enrolled in 18 or fewer credit hours during the quarter (including the virtual study abroad classwork), this means there will be no additional tuition cost.  For graduate, professional, and part-time undergraduate students paying tuition by credit hour, regular tuition charges will apply for the classwork.

*The exception is the Virtual International Internship program, which costs $800, in addition to 4 credits of tuition. Need-based Study Abroad scholarships are available to cover the $800 fee for eligible students.

Each virtual study abroad program has its own application deadline.  Click the page for the program in which you are interested to see the application deadline for that program.  In some cases, additional applications may be accepted after the deadline, if spots are still available.

You are not able to register in the virtual program class yourself—Study Abroad will register you in the class after you have been accepted and have decided to participate in the program.
