ESL 500 Academic Success for International Students

This free, short course provides students with the tools needed for success at DePaul and within a U.S. educational system.

In this course, students will become more familiar with what is expected of you as a student at DePaul University as you interact with your teachers, administrators, and other students. We will also discuss U.S. culture and DePaul policy as it pertains to your coursework, the course syllabus and finally, academic integrity.

This course has 2 required portions – an online portion and an in-person discussion section. Students MUST complete both sections to pass the course.  Students must select and attend one discussion section.

Students have been enrolled for a general discussion section.  They MUST enroll for a discussion section at a specific time or date.  

1.   Log into campus connect > Manage Classes > Class Search & Enroll > Select the current term > type ESL 500 in the searh field

2.   Review the available discussions sections (all are on different days and at different times) for ESL 500. (Click on the section to see the specific date offered)

3.   Select and attend the required discussion section. Pay attention to the meeting times and dates.  Each section only meets once during the quarter

4.   Open the D2L page for the discussion section you have chosen and complete the online portion of the course.

Students MUST complete the online work AND attend the in-person discussion section to pass the course.  Note, students who don’t attend or fail the course, will not be able to register for future terms.

There is no cost for this course

ESL 500 Academic Success for International Students is required for all international graduate students, regardless of their previous experience. Transfer credit is not permitted for this class and it cannot be waived.  As a result, we cannot remove you from the course.
