Environmental Diplomacy Issues in Nuclear Waste Disposal: Conflicts and Mediation

​​​​​​​​​​​​​Project Summary: 

  • This GLE project was a collaboration between students at DePaul, Institut National Universitaire Champollion in France and Navajo Technical University in the Navajo Nation. Students focused on multicultural issues surrounding the disposal of nuclear waste in France, and the US (in Illinois) and the mining of uranium on the Navajo lands.  The students learned first-hand the different environmental world​views associated with this global policy issue of disposal. The students practiced environmental diplomacy skills in a simulated environment and debated nuclear reprocessing in the world. They compared their views on nuclear waste and uncovered many ways that environmental racism is made manifest. ​
