Cross-Border M&A: Global Expansion and Planning for CSR, Sustainability and Human Capital Integration

Project Summary:

This GLE Project aimed to help the students explore, acquire, and gain hands-on experience in a global setting, mimicking real business situations. It connected students of the technological age, facing a diverse and evolving economic environment fueled by the internet and multimedia sources. The students were given an overview of the means of conducting international business, with an emphasis on what makes international different from domestic. Some topics covered were the effects of the social systems within countries on the conduct of international business; the major theories explaining international business transactions and the institutions influencing those activities and the financial exchange systems and institutions that measure and facilitate international transactions. The teams chose a company and two countries, and analyzed and assessed  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability, negotiations and human capital issues for successful integration of the company in the two targeted countries.

" I am convinced that the GLEs are truly projects that simulate the reality of the world of the job, once they bring to students and professors the need for adapting quickly in order to accomplish goals and deadlines, which is pointed as one of the main skills of the jobs of tomorrow. Because of this, the people involved in these projects get more mature and more qualified for their professional lives, no matter if they are students or professors. Another important aspect regarding GLEs is that these collaborations offer the possibility of bridging the gap between Higher Education Institutions, companies and government institutions, pushing knowledge sharing and innovation, enriching and renewing the HE role in the business world."

~ Ricardo Nobrega

"Through the GLE project, I have been successful in motivating students to learn with teammates from different cultural backgrounds. I feel grateful for them to be open, acknowledging the fruitful personal development beneficial for their future career."
