Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) and the Arts at DePaul University

What are our goals?

What do we hope to achieve and for whom?

Who is our primary target audience?

Introduction:

As each department across DePaul University continues to account for and reaffirm their commitments to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA), the Arts at DePaul steering committee and its partners wish to celebrate and champion the diverse narratives that form our university community and beyond. This committee was formed in order to use DePaul's various artistic platforms as catalysts for sparking much-needed dialogue and community engagement, specifically around the topics of IDEA work. In addition to developing methods of accountability for reviewing and rectifying our own institutional biases within the arts at DePaul, our hope is that these programs and performances-which reflect out deep-seeded commitment to diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and change in the arts-will also serve as a celebratory reflection of those artists, musicians, actors, composers, students, faculty, staff, and community members that comprise the fabric of our university and the basis of our Vincentian values.

Support the University's priority in "Ground in Mission - The Plan for DePaul 2024" to reaffirm our "commitment to be aninclusive community that draws on diversity as a sourrce of learning and understanding." (Priority II).

Actively cultivate an inclusive and collaborative campus climate through programming, community outreach, and professional development opportunities.

Amplify stories and experiences of under-represented and marginalized populations through music, theatre, art, storytelling, and research that inform and reflect our diverse campus.

Provide artistic experiences offering unique perspectives to inspire a broad audience of community members in discussions around anti-racism, social justice, access and equity.
