​Relevant Experience

Shahani (she/her) has experience working with students, both as a counselor and as a teacher. Before Shahani transitioned to a career in social work, she was an elementary school teacher and social emotional learning coordinator for her school. After making the shift to social work and working as a counselor, Shahani primarily worked with students and young adults through individual and group therapy. Shahani has worked with clients on a variety of issues such as depression and anxiety, trauma, and ADHD. Shahani loves to incorporate therapeutic modalities such as Mindful Self-Compassion, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing into her clinical practice. Shahani also has case management experience, connecting clients to relevant services and community resources.
 
Clinical Interests
Shahani's areas of interest include: Mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, working with first and second generation immigrants, intergenerational trauma, identity and intersectionality, adjustment/life transitions, and working with the LGBTQIA+ community

Fun Fact
Shahani has a very lovable and stubborn dog. She is currently working on training her dog to wear boots for the snowy weather, but her dog usually just lays there and refuses to move once the boots are on. Shahani also does not love to go out in the snow, so she understands.
