For initial IBC training and separate Shipping or Transport Training (when applicable to your protocol)
To be used when a person will receive biohazardous agents, but will not ship or transport biohazardous agents
IBC members are required to take basic initial biosafety training before they can vote on protocols at a convened IBC meeting. Office of Research Services staff who have responsibilities related to the IBC are required to take biosafety training at the time of initial orientation to the staff position or at the time they are assigned IBC-related duties. IBC Members and Staff would choose the Learner Group called “IBC Members and Staff” to sign up for the correct Biosafety Course. The following Modules are included in the training program for IBC Members and Staff.
After most CITI modules there is a multiple choice quiz that relates to that module. In order to obtain credit for the training, individuals must complete the quiz after each module and obtain an overall average passing score of 80%. Individual quizzes may be retaken, if necessary, in order to obtain a passing score.
Additional modules designated as optional are available in CITI. Optional modules may be completed at the discretion of the individual, but they are not required. Optional modules become available after the required modules have been completed.
If an individual is both an IBC member and an investigator, they would be required to take the modules in the IBC member learner group, as this learner group has the largest number of modules and provides the training necessary to be an IBC member.
IBC members and ORP staff will receive continuing education and training through a combination of the following:
