Each DePaul University college has a Diversity Advocate, appointed by the dean to a renewable one-year term, who leads college-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Diversity Advocates meet quarterly with the Associate Provost for DEI (AP-DEI) to coordinate with broader initiatives within Academic Affairs.
Duties may include:
Strategy & Programming
- Collaborate with the college DEI committee to implement the college's DEI strategic plan.
- Develop and coordinate programming on issues affecting protected classes, in partnership with the DEI committee and the Faculty Council's Committee on Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (CEID) representative.
- Lead difficult dialogues on diversity-related topics.
- Present DEI updates at college-wide meetings alongside the CEID representative.
Policy & Compliance Awareness
Faculty Support & Development
- Complete Faculty Search and Implicit Bias Training and other AP-DEI-sponsored DEI training. Assist in the college in the search process.
- Assist faculty search committees in building recruitment plans that attract diverse applicant pools, and ensure committee members know the Faculty Search Resources.
- Confirm all untenured tenure-track faculty have an assigned, trained mentor and have completed mentee training.
- Promote faculty awareness of NCFDD research support services.
- Familiarize faculty with the UDL Inclusive Course Design Grant, which incentivizes inclusive teaching practices.
