Academic Diversity

As an educational institution, particularly one that is mission driven, diversity and inclusion are central to our ability to live up to our values as well as to achieve our core educational purpose.  Therefore we continuously strive to build and maintain an inclusive environment in which all members of our community feel welcomed, valued, and support; and diversity is a key component of such an environment.

Some of the activities we undertake to ensure a diverse and inclusive environment include:

  • Advertising faculty openings on various electronic job sites in order to build diverse pools of applicants.  For full-time faculty positions, these sites are The Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Education, Hispanic Outlook, and the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium.
  • Comparing the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity of applicant pools for all full-time faculty positions is to national norms for the given academic area.
  • Conducting anti-bias training for members of search committees for all full-time faculty searches.
  • Maintaining and adhering to DePaul’s Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Procedures (ADAH).
  • Providing internal grants in support of faculty members’ development of their research, teaching, and service agendas.
  • Maintaining an institutional membership with the National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development (NCFDD) that gives members of our community access to the wide range of programming offered by the NCFDD.
