​​​​Projects Eligible for Exempt or Expedited Review

Initial review submissions may receive a decision of full approval, modifications required and/or additional information required.

Exempt and expedited protocol submissions are reviewed year-round and may be submitted at any time. There are no deadlines for submission of initial exempt and expedited protocols.

In order to accommodate vacation and holiday schedules, the time frame for reviewing exempt/expedited review may be longer during the summer and winter holiday, depending on the date of submission and the number of submissions received. If you do not hear from the IRB after 15 business days, contact the ORS-Research Protections staff for a status update at orp@depaul.edu.

Projects Requiring Full Board Review

Full board protocol submissions are ONLY reviewed by the convened IRB during the academic year. Full board submissions submitted in late May or early June may not receive review until the beginning of the next academic year (August or September), depending on the number of full board protocol submissions received. The IRB accepts full board submissions year -round (please refer to the submission deadlines below for the Academic year), but if they are submitted during the summer, they will receive a preliminary review by Office of Research Services staff to prepare the protocol submission for review by the full IRB committee in the fall. You do not need to wait for a deadline to submit a protocol for full review. You may submit them at any time. 

The following deadlines are only applicable to protocol submissions that require Full (Convened) Board Review.​
