Global Engagement is excited and proud to announce the official launch of the Curriculum Internationalization (CI) unit. CI supports the mission of Global Engagement by expanding our portfolio of bold and innovative global programs, including a holistic approach to supporting faculty in their efforts to infuse the curriculum with international perspectives. For over a decade at DePaul, we have intentionally developed programs and initiatives that enrich the experience of our faculty and students in the classroom with global perspectives, without the onus of travel. Establishing the CI unit “...unifies our programming and gives it more visibility to faculty, partner schools, and other stakeholders. It supports the work that we have done and continue to do to expand our global reach without leaving home,” attests director, Rosi León.
As a pioneer in virtual exchange (VE), CI continues to leverage its expertise in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Comprehensive Internationalization Committee (CIC) to support DePaul’s award-winning Global Learning Experience (GLE) program and the growing GLE faculty community of practice.
The CI team continues to organize and implement the yearly offering of Global Conversations, a dynamic virtual initiative that has been engaging students around the world for over 5 years. To honor students' efforts progressing toward global and intercultural competencies, CI manages and awards two global certificates: the Global Fluency Certificate for undergraduate students and the Global Competency Certificate for graduate students. Additionally, steeped in the Vincentian mission at DePaul to educate students who have been marginalized, CI supports our Displaced Students initiatives in collaboration with DePaul Migration Collaborative, the members of the Sponsor Circle team within the Sponsor Circles Program, and the Student Government Association. This strategic partnership provides wrap-around services to students studying at DePaul locally in Chicago and virtually.
The CI team, lead by the intrepid Rositsa (Rosi) León, director, includes the steadfast Emily Kraus, associate director, data enthusiast Suleyman Rahameto, coordinator, and ingenuitive Saniya Jain, student assistant, remains committed to welcoming incoming short-term programs, with carefully customized visits and activities to address the needs of international partner institutions.
In addition to this portfolio of existing global engagement programs and initiatives, CI will engage in creative designing processes targeting potential new offerings of virtual and hybrid programs, working with faculty and staff across DePaul’s colleges and schools. CI is also looking forward to supporting DePaul faculty to teach abroad at some of our partner institutions. For any questions about CI programing, please contact the team at CI@depaul.edu.
