Incomplete Grades

As of Autumn 2025, the Incomplete Policy has changed.  Please read carefully.

A new academic policy regarding Incomplete Grades is going into effect.  Details of the policy can be located at:  Incomplete Grade Policy   Important to note - The time to resolve an Incomplete grade has changed and is now shorter. The grace period to resolve an Incomplete is one regular quarter.  Also note that an instructor can give a shorter deadline to complete work.

An Incomplete (IN) grade is a temporary grade indicating that, following a request by the student, the instructor has given permission for the student to receive an incomplete grade.  The student can then complete any work by the deadline to receive a grade.

To request an Incomplete Grade for a specific course, a student must make the request by filling out the form here.  (Available the 8th week of Autumn 2025 term).  Beginning Autumn Term 2025, the deadline for students to submit the request will be the last day of instruction for the term.   Deadlines include the following:

Autumn 2025 deadline is 11/18/2025

Winter 2026 deadline is 3/13/2026

Spring 2026 deadline is 6/5/2026

The deadline for instructor approval is the last day of finals for the term.

Students must use the Incomplete Grade Request form to seek a grade of Incomplete (IN). See link posted above. Students seeking an Incomplete must submit the form by the last day of classes for the term.

AND

The instructor must grant permission for the student to receive an IN grade through form workflow by the last day of final exams for that term.

To receive an IN grade, the student must have

a) have a satisfactory record in the work already completed for the course,

b) encountered unusual or unforeseeable circumstances which prevent them from completing the course requirements by the end of the term, and

c) applied to the instructor for permission by the end of the term and received approval from the instructor by the end of finals for that term.

Note: The Law School adheres to a different calendar. See the Law School Handbook for the Law School policy on incomplete grades.
