If the requested date is available, the date will be held on a tentative basis for a period of 5 business days. If the Wedding Reception Contract, accompanied by a 50% deposit, is not received by 3:00pm on the 5th business day, the date will be released. The balance of the rental is due 24 hours prior to event date. Please note that we will send a reminder notice for the remaining balance.
In the event of a cancellation your deposit will not be refunded. Cancellations require a signature on a Notification of Cancellation Form filled out in person with the Event Coordinator for the Student Centers.
At the Lincoln Park Student Center Room 120 AB, the total capacity is 400 persons and the Cortelyou Commons capacity is 180 persons, depending on setup. These maximums include guests, children, and the wedding party. This limit is in place to protect the safety of you and your guests.
Under no circumstance can the DePaul University Student Centers accommodate more than those maximums stated below:
- 180 Stand up reception
- 150 round table reception (128 when using a dance floor)
- Seating number is based on a served dinner

- 500 stand up reception
- 400 round table reception - 360 when using a dance floor
Chartwells is the exclusive caterer of DePaul University. Outside caterers are not allowed on the premises to cater your event. Please contact DePaul Catering for more information about menus, pricing, and policies.
The standard rental period for wedding receptions is a total of 8 hours. This is comprised of 2.5 hours for set up by caterers, florists, and other reception preparations, and 5.5 hours of guest time for the wedding reception.
For an additional fee, there is a possibility of holding your wedding ceremony as well as your reception. Your guests will be required to leave the facility for the time between the wedding and reception to allow for room set up change over. If you book a wedding ceremony in addition to the wedding reception you are entitled to a one-hour rehearsal on the evening prior to your wedding depending on space availability.
Additional Setup Time
Additional setup time may be allowed depending on staff availability. If you require setup time that exceeds the 1.5 hours prior to your event, please let us know as soon as possible. There will be a $150 charge for each hour you require beyond the agreed upon rental period. This fee will not be prorated for any portion of an hour used.
Dancing and Music
Dancing is permitted in the Main Ballroom space. Entertainment and equipment for private entertainers are the sole responsibility of the requesting group. Reception music can not be permitted outside of the Cortelyou Commons due to the residential location of the building. Amplified systems can be used within reason and must face the west wall so that the sound does not affect the residences in the area. Music must be scheduled to end by 10:40 pm, or 20 minutes prior to your reserved end time. This policy is strictly enforced and failure to comply can result in an additional charge of $500/hour for any portion of an hour used beyond 11:00 pm.
All DePaul facilities are non-smoking.
Open flame candles are not to be used in any facility. Well-enclosed tea light candles or votives must be approved by the Event Coordinator.
Birdseed, rice, flower petals, confetti, or any decoration smaller than 2" x 2" may not be thrown anywhere in the facilities. Additional charges will be assessed for unusually heavy cleaning or damages following a wedding reception.
