Admission Requirements

Is your client ready to apply?  Admission requirements are provided below based on applicant type: 

English Language Academy

Admission to the ELA is open to all international students who have studied some English and completed their secondary school education. Minimum age for admission is 17 years old.

Undergraduate Applicants

Freshman

A freshman applicant is one entering university directly after secondary school (high school).

Please note, each academic program has different admission requirements.  The minimum requirements below do not guarantee admission for applicants. 

Minimum requirements:

  • GPA 2.5
  • IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 80 ibt
  • Conditional Admission: IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 60 ibt
  • SAT/ACT not required. (SAT/ACT must be submitted to be considered for scholarship. Scholarships granted at time of admission)

Transfer

A transfer applicant is a student applying for a bachelor's degree who has completed high school and has taken additional coursework in one or more post-secondary institutions (college or university). 

Please note, each academic program has different admission requirements.  The minimum requirements below do not guarantee admission for applicants. 

Minimum requirements:

  • GPA 2.0
  • IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 80 ibt
  • Conditional Admission: IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 60 ibt
  • SAT/ACT not required. (SAT/ACT must be submitted to be considered for scholarship. Scholarships granted at time of admission)

DePaul also has formal transfer agreements with several international institutions, allowing you to begin your degree in your home country before transferring to DePaul.

Transfer Admission Process

Graduate Applicants

Graduate applicants are those who have completed, or are in process of completing, the equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, either in the U.S. or abroad, and are applying to a graduate or professional program of study (Master's, PhD, LLM, JD).  Each graduate program establishes its own application and admission standards and deadlines,​ which may differ from program to program even within the same department.
