​Matt is the primary adviser to the University regarding student affairs matters, including student conduct, health and welfare; academic integrity; sexual and relationship violence (Title IX); disability issues; and residential education and housing.  He also provides advice and counsel to DePaul Athletics.  Matt also advises on litigation matters and other issues involving higher education law.  Prior to joining DePaul's Office of General Counsel, Matt served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois where he led dozens of federal criminal investigations and prosecutions involving financial crimes, health care fraud, trade secret theft, child exploitation, racketeering, money laundering, and international narcotics trafficking offenses.  Matt previously worked as a litigation associate at Winston & Strawn LLP in Chicago where his practice included internal investigations and commercial litigation, and served as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Joan A. Lenard for the Southern District of Florida in Miami.  Matt received his law and undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan.
