DePaul is the largest private, not-for-profit university in the Midwest and the 14th-largest private institution nationally. DePaul has been the largest Catholic university in the nation for 21 consecutive years, having exceeded St. John’s University in total enrollment in 1998. DePaul enrolled 11 percent of the enrollment at the 15 largest Catholic institutions in 2018. 

Enrollment at the largest Catholic institutions increased annually from 2014 to 2018. Enrollment increased by 3,671 students, or 2 percent, over that time. Almost half of this increase was between 2017 and 2018.
