History of Convocation
Convocation celebrates the official beginning of the new academic year. On this day, we call together faculty and staff to welcome our new colleagues, to honor members of our community for their accomplishments, and to support each other as we live our Vincentian mission in service to our students and community.

From the founding of the University in 1898, well into the 1970's, convocation was used interchangeably with commencement.

Records of DePaul's Convocation as we know it today go back to 1937, where students were awarded scholarships for outstanding academic achievement.
