Academic Success for International Students

Here, at the International Resource Center, we want you to be able to easily transition into being a successful DePaul University student. This requires your knowledge to go far beyond grammatical and other language structures and reach toward an understanding of expectations of U.S. academic behavior. To help you achieve this goal, we have created a course that all DePaul international students have access to via their D2L account: Academic Success for International Students. This course is designed to be completed before your arrival at DePaul and also to be referenced throughout your first quarter. You will have access to the following types of information:

  • Communicating with professors through email and in office hours
  • Reading and following syllabi
  • Understanding assignments
  • Maintaining academic integrity
  • Study skills for before, during, and after class
  • Completing discussion boards, summaries, and responses
  • Preparing for final and major assignments

Much of being successful is meeting expectations that those in the university already have of you. As an international student, this can be difficult since these expectations vary depending on your culture. We hope that through these modules you can learn more about the American educational system and cultural expectations here. Our goal is that you are not just a student here, but a thriving student of DePaul University.

If you are a current DePaul University student, please check your DePaul email account for messages about how to access this course. You should be able to find it by searching for “Academic Success for International Students."
