Register for International Student Orientation

Mandatory for all F-1 and J-1 exchange Undergraduate, Graduate & Transfer students.

Orientation Registration: Orientation will be two full days and is required for all new international students.  Date & Time is TBD.

New Student Career Conference: TBD

International Student Orientation will be delivered in two parts & both parts are required for all new international students:

  • Asynchronous pre-arrival orientation via D2L (available 10 weeks before the start of your program, after your I-20 or DS 2019 has been issued).
  • In-Person in the DePaul Center (1 E Jackson Blvd, 8th Floor)

Agenda will be posted in D2L.

Special Notes:

  • College of Law Students: COL students have a unique term start date and orientation. Please refer to communication received from the College of Law for more information. 
  • Undergraduate Students: Please review your Next Steps Checklist in the Blue Demon Domain for any freshman orientation requirements. 
  • ELA and Conditionally Admitted Students: Students issued an ELA I-20 (including conditionally admitted students) will only attend the ELA orientation. For more information and for registration information please contact the English Language Academy.

Pre-arrival Orientation: 

  • The online orientation will be available approximately 10 weeks before your program start date and can be accessed shortly after your I-20 or DS-2019 has been issued by DePaul.
  • Complete the mandatory D2L pre-arrival orientation before attending on-campus orientation.

International Student Orientation is mandatory for all new international students (F-1 & J-1 visa holders). This includes all academic programs and levels (including undergraduate, graduate and transfer students).  Please click the link below to register for orientation in Eventbrite

Registration Link

  • Date: January 4 & 5
  • Time: 8am - 5pm.  Check-in is at 8am each day. Sessions run tillall day, with breaks.
  • Location: Loop Campus, DePaul Center, 8th Floor (1 E Jackson Blvd)

  • Agenda: Description of types of sessions to expect is included in the Eventbrite link above.  A full agenda will be available in D2L

How to Prepare:

  • Complete the online D2L pre-arrival orientation on Academic Success and Immigration Basics before orientation.  This is also where you will find the full agenda for your orientation and many resources to help you plan your travel and arrival in Chicago.  You can find more detailed instructions for accessing D2L HERE.
  • Plan Your Housing: Refer to our Housing Resources page to explore options for on or off campus housing and temporary housing options.

  • Arrange Your Move-in: On-Campus housing move-in is by appointment (email: housing@depaul.edu).  Off-campus housing move-in is also arranged with your landlord.

  • Arrange Your Temporary Housing: Most students will need to arrange a hotel or hostel for their first nights in Chicago.  Please make these arrangements before leaving home.

  • Plan Your Travel: Register for our Airport Welcome Program on January 3rd, 8am - 8pm at Chicago O'Hare Airport.  You can find more resources about this program on our Global DePaul Welcome page and in D2L to help you know what to expect at the airport and how to make your travel arrangements. 

Other DePaul Orientation Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Students: Please review your Next Steps Checklist in the Blue Demon Domain for any freshman orientation requirements. When offered the choice between Explore Chicago or Discover Chicago courses, we recommend you take Explore Chicago.
  • Graduate & College of Law Students: Some academic programs may offer college specific orientation events. Please follow instructions you receive from your academic unit and attend those sessions in addition to attending this international student orientation. Law students have a unique term start date and orientation. Please refer to communication received from the College of Law for more information.
  • ELA and Conditionally Admitted Students: Students issued an ELA I-20 (including conditionally admitted students) will only attend the ELA orientation. For more information and for registration information please contact the English Language Academy.

  • We have many sessions planned throughout the day on topics we think you need to know and understand to be successful in your first weeks at DePaul
  • Examples of Sessions: Immigration Basics, How to Be a Successful Student, How to Access Your Health Insurance, How to Find a Campus Job, Take Care DePaul & Culture Shock
  • The full agenda will be posted in D2L  (http://d2l.depaul.edu)
  • Student volunteers will be available to greet those arriving at Chicago O'Hare Airport. Click here to read more and to register with our Airport Welcome Program.
  • To maintain your legal student visa status, you must complete the required online immigration document check-in process after you arrive in Chicago.

  • Mark your calendar and plan to arrive in Chicago so you can attend all of orientation.
  • Complete the online D2L pre-arrival orientation on Academic Success and Immigration Basics in before orientation. You will have access to D2L at the end of February (and after your I-20 or DS 2019 has been issued).
