Where did you go to school?
I went to DePaul’s Theatre School for undergrad and Northwestern University for grad school.
What were your majors/minors in undergrad?
At The Theatre School I majored in costume design. I liked that it combined my interest in art and design with research and craft and it allowed me to work collaboratively.
Favorite class in college?
In my last year at DePaul I took a class on Diaspora Studies with Maria de los Angeles Torres that really changed the way I thought about art and academics and the divisions between disciplines. It was really liberating. Since then I’ve been less worried about whether I am an artist or academic or ________. I can be all of them.
If you weren’t an academic advisor, what would you be doing?
I’d be at home baking a cake.
Three favorite things?
The writing of Virginia Woolf, hikes in beautiful places (the American Southwest, Iceland, England!), and mozzarella sticks.
