​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​DePaul's office of Community & Government Relations manages the relationship between the university and the S​tate of Illinois. It is our goal to ensure that DePaul's voice is heard on all issues affecting higher education. Our services benefit DePaul students, staff, and surrounding community. One way we do this is by supporting legislation for grants and other student related financial assistance.  Our office also handles the funding for the projects and programs that benefit DePaul's neighboring area.  CGR coordinates DePaul's response to state requirements on ethics regulations. We also work with the DePaul Career Center to obtain information on careers in the federal government for students.

Working with Illinois Elected Officials

The CGR office acts as DePaul's liaison with elected government officials. We support and track legislation in Springfield that impacts higher education. Our office maintains DePaul's relationships with state senators and representatives who serve the districts where the campuses are located. Here are some of the current Illinois elected officials we work with:

Voting is your constitutional right and civic responsibility. Registering to vote is simple and takes just a few moments. Use these helpful links to learn more: 

College students who vote make a difference:

  • The youth vote (ages 18-29) account for more than a quarter of votes cast in recent national elections.
  • Youth voter turnout was 27% in the 2022 midterm election, the highest in three decades.
  • In the 2022 election, 87% of youth voters had college experience.
