In this role, Atwood, oversaw the company's technology needs, claims, customer service, and membership administration.
Before assuming this position in 2015, Atwood served as president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois,(BCBSIL), a division of HCSC. In this role, she oversaw all of BCBSIL's sales and marketing activities; its extensive health, wellness and medical management programs; its health care provider networks and relationships; and its government, public and community relations activities across Illinois. Atwood joined BCBSIL in 1979 and headed BCBSIL's National Accounts Division, as well as served as HCSC's chief underwriter, and in various roles in financial operations, cost and budgets, and financial reporting.
Atwood received a master's degree in business administration from DePaul University and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, She is a certified public accountant. (inactive).
Atwood has served on various boards throughout her career, currently serving as Immediate Past Chair for Special Olympics Illinois and as a trustee for DePaul University.
