Dear Students,
Welcome to the new academic year at DePaul! Whether you're arriving on campus for the first time or returning for another year of discovery, I am thrilled to welcome you to our community.
As a Catholic, Vincentian university, we believe education is more than acquiring knowledge — it is about using that knowledge to serve others and advance the common good. I encourage you to use your talents to tackle the pressing questions facing society and to grow as leaders in whatever path you pursue.
At DePaul, we take care of one another. We respect the dignity of every person. We listen with curiosity, build understanding across differences, and approach free expression as an opportunity for growth, not division. University leadership recently shared these
expectations with faculty, staff, and students, which I encourage you to review.
As students, you play a vital role in creating a community that embraces diverse voices and perspectives.
Our commitment to respect and open dialogue is deeply connected to our broader community. We are proud to be part of Chicago, a dynamic, diverse city that offers countless opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference. Our connection to the city is a key part of your education, and your time here will help shape the kind of impact you want to have in the world.
Listening to your feedback is another way we strengthen our community. Beginning today, we’ll introduce a new student-only edition of Newsline, a weekly newsletter designed to keep you informed, inspired, and connected. I encourage you to explore it regularly to discover stories and opportunities that reflect the vibrant spirit of our student community.
I know that recent developments around immigration enforcement are weighing on many in our community. If you need guidance or support, please refer to the
resources we shared with the university last week, including
FAQs about Immigration and Customs Enforcement on DePaul property. If you have concerns about attending classes, reach out to your professors or contact leadership in DePaul’s Student Government Association. We are asking our university community to be understanding and supportive during this uncertain time.
Let’s make this a year of purpose, discovery, and connection. I look forward to celebrating all that you will accomplish. Welcome back — and best wishes for a strong start to the quarter.
Sincerely,
Robert L. Manuel
President
