Member Details

Eric Schwabe is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing and was a member of the Society of Vincent DePaul Professors from 2004 to 2020. He received his B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991, and held research and teaching positions at Carnegie Mellon University and Northwestern University before coming to DePaul in 1998. He has enjoyed teaching a wide range of students at DePaul, from undergraduates in introductory courses in programming and internet technologies to graduate students in advanced courses in parallel algorithms and databases; he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from DePaul in 2010. His general area of research interest is theoretical computer science, particularly the theory of parallel algorithms and architectures and the design of high-performance fault-tolerant disk arrays. As a member of the first cohort of the Society of Vincent de Paul Professors, he initially served on the society's membership committee; he later focused on supporting the scholarship of teaching and learning (along with other teaching and learning initiatives) in collaboration with DePaul's Center for Teaching and Learning.
