Welcome to a new academic year!

This message was also sent to faculty, staff, and family members.

Dear Students,

There is nothing quite like the start of a new academic year at DePaul. Our Lincoln Park and Loop campuses are once again filled with students, new ideas, and the energy that makes this university such a special place. I’m thrilled to welcome you to the 2026-27 academic year.

For those of you just beginning your DePaul experience, know that you already belong here. Welcome to the DePaul family. And to our returning students: welcome home.

One of the things I value most about this university is you. Your ideas push us forward. Your curiosity sharpens our academic excellence. Your presence deepens our Catholic, Vincentian mission and our connection to this great city. You are not simply part of this community — you help build it.

As the year unfolds, I encourage you to seek out your professors and each other. Take every chance to put what you learn into practice through internships, research opportunities, and service learning across Chicago.

Our mission calls you toward something larger than a classroom. It calls you to use what you know and what you can do to make a real difference in the world. Get close to people whose experiences differ from your own. That is what makes DePaul stand out.

Our mission asks something else of us: to see the dignity in every person we meet on this campus and off, even when we see the world differently. As we shared in our message about expectations for our community, DePaul should be a place where you can speak freely, listen generously, disagree thoughtfully, and learn from one another. Respect and care for one another — that is a responsibility every one of us shares here, whatever our backgrounds or beliefs.

Stay connected to everything happening at DePaul and take advantage of the many opportunities available to you. Find your community, discover events, and explore student organizations through DeHUB. Read the student edition of Newsline every week. Written for students by students, it highlights events and opportunities to get involved throughout the year.

As we begin the new year together, make the most of it. Ask questions. Try something you never experienced before. Get to know people who challenge your thinking. Find the places and people that make DePaul yours.

Remember that you have an important role to play here. Your ideas, your talents, and the way you show up for one another will shape DePaul this year — and long after you graduate.

Welcome back, Blue Demons. Let’s make it a great year, and always remember to take care of yourself, take care of each other, and take care, DePaul.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Manuel
President
