Participate in Opus Prize Week

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

St. Vincent de Paul showed us what it means to see the dignity in all human beings and to respond not only with compassion and understanding, but also with action. This October, DePaul University is honored to welcome the inspiring Opus Prize finalists who embody this call.

I invite the DePaul community to celebrate Opus Prize Week, Oct. 26-29. You can find the schedule of events on the Opus Prize website and at the bottom of this message.

The Opus Prize is one of the world’s largest faith-based awards, recognizing individuals and organizations whose courageous work is transforming lives and communities. Each year, the Opus Prize Foundation partners with a Catholic university to introduce its community to these remarkable leaders and select the next laureate. It is a special honor for DePaul to serve as this year’s host and to bring the prize’s global spirit of faith, service, and human dignity to our university and the city of Chicago.

Throughout the week, there are many ways to participate as finalists share their stories and meet with our students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the broader Chicago community. The week culminates in an awards ceremony naming this year’s laureate, whose organization receives $1 million from the Opus Prize Foundation to support their work.

DePaul students have played an important role in this year’s Opus Prize process. Our student ambassadors visited finalist organizations in South Africa and Romania, and here in Chicago to experience their work firsthand and help bring what they learned back to our university community. I encourage you to learn more about our student ambassadors and how this experience helped shape their understanding of service, leadership, and our Catholic, Vincentian mission.

By attending the Opus Prize events, you will hear from finalists who have dedicated their lives to addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges — something I hope will inspire you to do the same. I invite you to learn more about how the finalists are transforming lives through faith-based service in this video.

I look forward to celebrating with you.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Manuel
President
