Dear Faculty and Staff,
For more than 125 years, DePaul’s commitment to education and service has remained at the heart of our Catholic, Vincentian mission. You exemplify this commitment every day, which is why I’m asking for your help to make the case for higher education and, specifically, the value of a DePaul education.
In early August, the U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon sent a letter to every university and college across the country. The letter asks each institution to answer a series of questions about our commitment to teaching, research, and service. Our response is due by the end of December, giving us an opportunity to articulate our mission, values, and how we serve our students and broader community.
I have asked Provost Russ Ivy to work with Faculty Council President Sonia Soltero and Staff Council President Scott Ozaroski to establish a shared governance process, working through the elected representatives of the Faculty and Staff Councils with input from their respective constituencies, to review Secretary McMahon’s letter and help inform DePaul’s response. That work should reflect the voices and expertise of our academic community, and you will receive more details about how you can participate soon.
