Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,
Earlier this evening, Public Safety alerted the community that antisemitic graffiti was found on the Loop Campus today. The markings were on the glass in front of “No Public Bathroom” signs. Our Public Safety Officers removed the markings immediately and reported them to the Chicago Police Department, who are investigating the incident as a hate crime. We will fully cooperate with this investigation.
Our security footage shows the suspect wore yellow pants, a black hat and was pulling a full shopping cart. Anyone with information about this incident should contact Public Safety at: 312-362-8400.
I know this incident is upsetting and want to reassure you that DePaul strongly condemns antisemitism and hate in all its forms. We are committed to ensuring DePaul is a safe and welcoming space for every member of our community.
Initial reports indicate it’s unlikely this was a member of our own community. While it’s difficult news to share, I want you to know that we take all incidents of hate seriously. Resources and information about how to report incidents on campus are available online.
Please take a moment to save the Public Safety numbers in your phone and do not hesitate to use them: 773-325-7777 in Lincoln Park and 312-362-8400 in the Loop.
The university will keep you informed if additional information becomes available. Please take care, and I hope you are having a safe and restful summer.
Sincerely,
Robert L. Manuel
President
