Hate crime charges

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

Last night, the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney Office confirmed a person of interest tied to the antisemitic attack that occurred at DePaul on November 6, 2024 has been arrested and charged with two counts of a hate crime and two counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm. The suspect is not a member of the DePaul community.

We are extremely grateful for the work of the police who investigated this case and apprehended the suspect. We are also grateful to the prosecutors in the Cook County State’s Attorney Office for ensuring the suspect will have to account for his actions in court. We would like to thank DePaul Public Safety for their ongoing partnership with the Chicago Police Department over the past several months to aid detectives in this investigation. We will continue to provide our full support and cooperation as the investigation and legal process move forward.

Acts of hate and violence have no place at DePaul. We condemn antisemitism in all its forms and stand in solidarity with those affected by this reprehensible act. Our commitment to fostering a campus environment rooted in safety, dignity, and respect for all remains unwavering.
