Presidential Fellows

In my first seven months as president, I have made it a high priority to engage in numerous conversations with members of our university community - especially Faculty Council - to better understand your needs and your ideas for designing DePaul’s future. One of the immediate outcomes of those conversations is the decision to expand the existing Diversity Presidential Fellows Program and create a new Shared Governance Presidential Fellows Program.

I’m happy to share in 2023-24, DePaul will offer up to five fellowships to focus on discrete questions of equity for the university’s affinity groups. We also will offer up to two fellowships to examine the tenets of shared governance and how they are enacted across the university. In order to encourage interdisciplinary research, please note that strong preference will be given to group proposals, submitted by multiple faculty – with no more than one faculty member per college or school. Applications for the next academic year are now open, and I invite you to apply here.

My hope for these fellowship opportunities is to provide research into the lived reality of our diverse communities and extend our understanding on how to make improvements at DePaul. Presidential fellows will have the opportunity to engage in actionable research and collaborate closely with me, as well as other university leaders and the Board of Trustees.

If you have any questions about the diversity fellowship, please contact Liz Ortiz at eortiz4@depaul.edu. For questions about the shared governance fellowship, please contact Arbin Smith at arbin.smith@depaul.edu. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 7, and fellows will be announced in the spring quarter.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to help make DePaul a more unified and equitable university.
