Rankings and Distinctions

Serving 23,539 students, DePaul University is the largest Catholic university in the nation and the largest private, not-for-profit university in the Midwest.

  • DePaul is the 13th largest private, not-for-profit university in the nation. (2015)
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked DePaul No. 121 in its 2013 rankings. DePaul moved up from 134 to 121, making this the fifth greatest rankings gain over the prior year among all national universities. The exclusive rankings are based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and evaluation of colleges countrywide. (2013)
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked DePaul in the top 10 of schools that produce the most internship opportunities for students. (2012)
  • Affordable Colleges Online ranked DePaul as a top college in Illinois for return on investment. (2013)
  • Victory Media ranked DePaul in the top 15 percent of schools nationwide for military friendliness.  (2013)
  • U.S. News & World Report included DePaul among universities with “hot” college majors for its computer game design program at the College of Computing and Digital Media. (2012)
  • Glassdoor, an online jobs and career community, included DePaul on the 2013 list of “Top 25 Universities to Work For.” (2013)

Diversity

  • DePaul is the country’s No. 1 producer of minority graduates who earn bachelor’s degrees in accountancy, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education’s 2013 rankings.  The magazine also ranked DePaul in the top 15 for bachelor’s degrees in finance and 19th for undergraduate degrees in marketing conferred upon students of color.  (2013)
  • The College of Law received the top prize for the Diversity Matters Award from the Law School Admission Council.  The annual award is given to a law school that has demonstrated the highest level of outreach to racially and ethnically diverse students. (2013)
  • Reform Judaism Magazine included DePaul in the list of the “Top 60 Schools Jews Choose.” DePaul is No. 30 among private schools. (2013)
  • Diversity MBA Magazine included DePaul in the Top Ten Best in Class Companies for Board Diversity. According to the magazine, top companies include their board in setting diversity strategies for the institution, and at least 45 percent of the board members are women or people of color. (2013)
  • Diversity MBA magazine ranked DePaul 19th in the 2012 Best Places for Diverse Managers to Work national survey. (2012)

Community Service and Sustainability

  • DePaul received the 2015 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the Boston-based independent policy and research center.
  • The university’s model of community collaboration and service learning is recognized nationally, helping DePaul earn a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll every year since 2006. (2013)
  • DePaul rose from the 173rd to the 130th spot in the annual Washington Monthly rankings of national universities based on contribution to the public good in three categories: social mobility, research and service. (2012)
  • For the fourth year in a row, The Princeton Review highlighted DePaul as one of 322 green colleges in the nation for its commitment to sustainability.  They profiled DePaul for its environmental degree programs, LEED-certified buildings, car sharing options and dining hall compost program.   • The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education recognized DePaul for its sustainability efforts. The association’s sustainability tracking, assessment and rating system cited DePaul’s pledge of social responsibility and commended the university for demonstrating its commitment to sustainability. Business and Law

  • DePaul’s Driehaus College of Business has the highest ranked program in Chicago, according to Bloomberg Businessweek’s national rankings of undergraduate business programs.  Driehaus is the second-highest ranked Illinois business college. (2013)
  • Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review ranked DePaul in the top 25 of the country’s best academic institutions for undergraduate entrepreneurship education. (2013)
  • JobsInTax.com ranked DePaul’s undergraduate accounting program among the top 15 in the nation.  (2013)
  • The Driehaus College of Business ranked 34th in the U.S. category of 1,000 best business schools in the world, according to Eduniversal, a Paris-based educational consulting organization. (2012)
  • DePaul’s College of Law is ranked among the 100 best law schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, which placed the school at No. 89 in its America’s Best Graduate Schools 2013 guidebook.  (2012)
  • The National Law Journal included the DePaul Legal Clinic in its Best of Chicago 2012 awards. Students in the DePaul Legal Clinic have worked since 1977 to defend copyright and trademark issues, represented clients in immigration court, drafted and negotiated housing contracts, and represented clients convicted of felony offenses in the appellate court. Arts

  • The Hollywood Reporter included The Theatre School in its list of the Top 25 Drama Schools in the World. They ranked The Theatre School at no. 17 and highlighted the 6-to-1 faculty-student ratio. (2013)
  • In 2013, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago included 45 members from DePaul, a new record for the university.  (2013)

Technology

  • The Hollywood Reporter included DePaul’s School of Cinema and Interactive Media in its 2013 list of Top 25 Domestic Film Schools.  The Hollywood Reporter commended DePaul for students getting their hands on cameras from day one and owning their films. (2013)
  • The Princeton Review ranked DePaul’s Master of Science in Game Development program No. 15 in the nation. The undergraduate program also received an honorable mention and was among the 50 schools recognized by The Princeton Review “for their commitment to this professional field.” (2013)
  • Information Week included DePaul in its list of the nation’s top 20 graduate programs for studying big data analytics. The publication featured DePaul’s M.S. in Predictive Analytics program in the College of Computing and Digital Media. (2013)
  • DePaul ranked seventh on AnimationCareerReview.com’s top 20 list of Best Animation Programs in the Midwest. The website praised DePaul’s cross-disciplinary courses and the university’s “refreshing perspective on the art of animation and its many applications outside of the cinema industry.” (2012)
  • Animation Career Review ranked DePaul’s College of Computing and Digital Media among the top 100 schools in animation in 2012. The publication commended DePaul, ranked No. 69, for its business of games courses and said those with an entrepreneurial spirit do well after graduation. (2012)
  • Zombie Yoga, a single player Xbox Kinect video game won the Gold Medal at the International Serious Play Competition. Doris Rusch, a professor in the College of Computing and Digital Media, and a team of undergraduate and graduate students designed the game. The award honors exceptional examples of serious games created by students for corporate, healthcare or educational purposes. Zombie Yoga falls under the healthcare/medical category. The game is free to download and play on Xbox Kinect. (2013)
