Dear Colleagues,
This academic year, we invite you to join us in continuing to build a culture of dialogue at DePaul. We strive for the university to be a place where free expression is met with openness to understanding and shared meaning.
At our first event in the President’s Dialogue Series this fall, we will explore the distinct value of a DePaul education in today’s climate, working to build a shared understanding of the complex ways we understand and communicate value: Is a college education an individual good rather than a social good? Who benefits from DePaul's presence in Chicago, the United States, and the world, and how do we talk about that? How do we answer the charge that higher education is a luxury and not a necessity?
Please join us on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 9 – 10:30 a.m., in Cortelyou Commons. RSVP on DeHub (use your BlueKey login).
Participants will hear several interpretations of value. Then, we will engage in small group conversations facilitated by faculty and staff who have completed the Dialogue in Action certificate.
Coming soon: Plans for practicing dialogue throughout the year
We are expanding the President’s Dialogue Series to include an event each quarter with students. Save the date for Oct. 28, 4 – 5: 30 p.m. in Lincoln Park. Stay tuned for details.
In partnership with Mission and Ministry, we will continue to offer in-depth training in dialogue facilitation for students through the Bridgebuilding Fellowship. Faculty and staff training is available through the Dialogue in Action Certificate offered by the College of Communication.
Apply for sponsorship for your events
We invite the DePaul community to develop your own opportunities for dialogic engagement with the support of the Dialogue Collaborative. Apply for funding on our website.
We appreciate your collaboration as we build a culture where differences of experience, standpoint, and knowledge can prompt us toward greater compassion and more inclusive decision-making. By communicating with one another as human beings worthy of dignity and respect, even when our perspectives differ, we cultivate trust and strengthen our community.
Warmly,
Robert L. Manuel
