Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
In the interest of keeping our university community informed, we have created
a website to provide information and resources for our students, faculty and staff. We will continue to keep this website updated with new information as it becomes available.
Yesterday, several hundred people participated in the encampment during the day with a group staying overnight. The Chicago Police Department and the university also received complaints about the noise level. Public Safety worked with the protestors to bring the noise level down.
Staff from across the university, including the divisions of Student Affairs, Mission and Ministry and Public Safety, are on the ground working to ensure the safety of all on campus.
Today, members of DePaul’s engagement team have arranged a meeting with the students leading the protest with the hope of establishing a productive dialogue. The university is also in contact with other student leaders on campus who are not part of the encampment to ensure many voices are heard in this process.
As we
shared yesterday, in alignment with our Catholic, Vincentian tradition, our hope is to identify a path forward that allows our community to make their voices heard, while also respecting the rights of fellow students to safely pursue their education and participate in regular university activities. Any acts of hatred, violence, Islamophobia, or antisemitism will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.
Sincerely,
Robert L. Manuel
