Food insecurity is a significant issue among college students across our country. Given the mission of St. Vincent DePaul and that of the university, the question “What must be done?" always comes to mind.
In February 2020, a group of DePaul staff members established The Rosalie Rendu Student Food Pantry to provide a food resource for students in need. Whether students need to use this resource on a temporary or permanent basis during their tenure at DePaul, the food pantry is here for all who need it.
The Rosalie Rendu Student Food Pantry is currently located on the 1st floor of the Lincoln Park Student Center in room 107 and is available during the quarter three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays). The pantry is behind a swipe-activated door for all enrolled students to access and purposely operates under an honor code and system of confidentiality. Our goal is to always make students feel as comfortable as possible when using the pantry. Though the pantry is not regularly staffed, it is managed by Student Center staff in partnership with our on-campus food provider, Chartwells.
The pantry depends on the generous food and monetary contributions from our DePaul Community, valued alumni, Lincoln Park neighbors, and foodservice partner, Chartwells. Current DePaul students on meal plans also have an opportunity to give back in the form of donations each year (information about this is sent to students throughout the year).
Currently, The Rosalie Rendu Student Food Pantry offers mostly non-perishable food items, as well as a small selection of frozen and fresh options. The pantry has also recently been combined with the DePaul Career Center's Career Closet; offering a small selection of business attire that students can use for job fairs and job interviews.
In addition to the food pantry on campus, St. Vincent de Paul's Parish has the Elizabeth Ann Seton Food Pantry available to the Lincoln Park community and DePaul students.
For any questions, concerns, or suggestions for the food pantry, students and donors may email our team at email@example.com.
A special note to our donors: We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity in helping provide these much-needed food resources for our students!
