Women Empowered Career Academy

The Women Empowered (WE) Program is a cohort-based program offered through the Office of Multicultural Student Success (OMSS) that supports and develops undergraduate women of color by facilitating programming centered on community, leadership and scholarship. To be eligible for WE, students must be in sophomore to senior standing, and self-identify with one or more of our target populations: first-generation college student, low-income background and/or student of color.

Participation in WE requires students to attend workshops/events/programs, meet with the WE graduate assistant and develop end-of-year reflections. All WE programming takes an identity-conscious approach, and programming focuses on one or more of the following (or related topics): career development, graduate school, alumni engagement, networking at DePaul and in Chicago, and cultural exploration.

WE strives to do the following:

  • Support and challenge women of color to achieve academic success
  • Encourage and assist women of color in engaging in the DePaul student experience
  • Facilitate dialogue around career options and graduate school exploration
  • Advocate and sustain positive identity development
  • Develop involvement and inclusion in leadership activities
  • Foster intergenerational mentoring
  • Promote community service and engagement

To join Women Empowered, students must fill out an interest form (which will take about five minutes). Take five minutes to fill out the form here. After completing the interest form, you will receive an official registration document to activate your membership to the 2016-2017 sophomore Women Empowered Cohort.

If you have any questions about WE and its benefits, the interest form, or OMSS, please feel free to email the 2016-2017 program graduate assistant, Gabby Parsons, at weomss@depaul.edu or call (773) 325-7325. You can also stop by the OMSS office and speak with Gabby:  please call to make an appointment. OMSS is located in the Lincoln Park Student Center, Suite 304.
