Yessenia Mejia currently serves the Office of Multicultural Student Success as the College Transitions Coordinator. She started off her academic journey at Elgin Community College then transferred to Western Illinois University to finish her BS in Psychology. She completed her MEd at DePaul University and during that time served as the graduate assistant for PATHS and as the graduate assistant supporting undocumented students.
As the College Transitions Coordinator she is charged with overseeing STARS (Students Together Are Reaching Success). The initiative seeks to retain first-year and transfer students while promoting persistence through peer to peer mentoring, staff support, and social / developmental programming. Thus, these programs support the academic, social, and institutional needs of first year / transfer students in OMSS target populations (e.g. students with financial need, students of color, first generation college students, undocumented students, and students with marginalized genders and sexualities).
