Timely Tips: Summer 2016

Nicole Ashley DePaul has established a new, off-campus housing service website. Summer is prime moving season, and students, faculty and staff who are moving to the area or out of the residence halls, or thinking about moving closer to campus or public transportation, now have access to this resource at their finger tips!

Nearly 90 percent of DePaul University’s total student population commutes or lives off campus. In addition, faculty and staff come to work at DePaul from institutions across the country, and need to root themselves in a new community they may know little about. Students have generally turned to Facebook groups or word of mouth to aid in the process of finding off-campus housing. Faculty and staff may rely on their personal or professional networks or apartment finding services--without knowing which service is the most reputable, or has the most listings near DePaul’s campuses.

Because of this, DePaul sought to simplify the off-campus housing search, and recently launched its official off-campus housing web service.

The DePaul Off-Campus Housing Service offers a user-friendly, searchable database for students, faculty and staff to find housing in the Chicago downtown and Lincoln Park areas. Site features include off-campus housing listings, a roommate finder, boards to buy and sell furniture and educational resources, such as sample leases and safety checklists.

The service is free for DePaul students, faculty and staff, while property managers pay a reasonable fee to list properties on the site. For more information about the service, contact Adult, Veteran and Commuter Student Affairs at 312.362.5494 or offcampus@depaul.edu.
