Meet our staff: Cory Barnes, Coordinator, Black Cultural Center

Cory Barnes joined DePaul in October 2017 as a the coordinator of the Black Cultural Center in the Office of Multicultural Student Success. In his role, he is the primary resource for information, referrals and advocacy to address the needs of people from all identities while directly supporting Black students.

Before coming to DePaul, Cory worked for the City Colleges of Chicago as a college advisor. As a college advisor, he provided guidance and support for 400 first-time and returning students enrolled in more than 70 academic programs, and facilitated the development and implementation of student support services to increase recruitment, retention, graduation, and transfer to four-year institutions.

Cory received an MSEd in counseling, adult and higher education and BA in sociology, both from Northern Illinois University. He is currently studying for a PhD in higher education administration at Illinois State University.
